How to treat Varicose Veins
Last Summer, when most of the people wore short, I saw most of them have varicose veins specially women. I am in my early 30's and I dont want to have it but I heard that wearing high heels all the time can cause varicose veins.
Varicose veins are dilated, gnarly leg veins that aren't limited to women. Men get them too, but women with varicose veins outnumber men. You got them like most people get them. There's a strong family influence in coming down with varicosities. Pregnancy, jobs where people must be on their feet for long times and obesity are other factores that generate such veins. Taller people have them more frequently than shorter folks.
The basic problem is faulty vein valves. Veins are equipped with valves that close shut as blood passes by to keep it form falling back down. If leg-vein valves aren't working, blood does falls back down, and it stagnates in the legs and dilates the veins, causing them to balloon.
You can do some things on your own to improve the situation. Take a couple of breaks during the day when you can lie down with your legs raised above heart level. Compression stockings keep blood flowing upward in leg veins. The best are ones that are specially fitted for your legs and that have more compression at ankle level than at thigh level.
Removal techniques are many. You ask about sclerotheraphy. In that procedure, a solution that irritates the veins' inner lining is injected into them. The lining sticks to itself, and the vein collapses. It's not used for all veins. It doesn't work well for very large ones. Catheter ablation is another newer technique where a thin, flexible tube-a catheter- is threaded into the veins. The catheter has a probe that emits radio waves that heat the lining and cause the vein to shrivel. The menu for varicose-vein treatment is large, this is only a small sample of what can be done.

Planning to give Gift Cards??
Image: Lego Gift Card
Black Friday was the start of holiday shopping but some people dont have much time to go shopping because they are busy with their work. So instead going to the store and buy gifts they just buy gift cards. If you are one of them who are just thinking to give Gift Cards, here's what you need to know. Gift Cards are hugely popular. These cards may be an easy way to reduce the stress of holiday shopping, but they often work better for the donor than for the recepient. Stores promote gift cards because the recipient often uses the card to make a large purchase like using the $100 gift card to buy something that costs $150. The seller is even happier when the recipient spends less than the card is worth and never uses the remaining balance. To make the cards even more appealing, some sellers let you personalize their cards with your name or putting the recipients name.
Gift cards are a quick, easy purchase for someone you dont know very well or someone who is hard to please. There's no need to figure out what they wants or to worry about buying the wrong size or color. They can use the card to choose their own gift and go shopping when it suits them.
Before buying a gift card, make sure if there are any charges that would reduce the value of the gift. If you decide to buy it, get that information in writing. It's always a mistakes to buy a card with a maintenance fee or an expiration date.

Malibu Fire AGAIN!

Several homes have been destroyed this morning by a wildfire that spread rapidly through the canyons and hills above Malibu as dozens of residents once again scrambled to evacuate as flames approached.
TV images showed some homes nestled in the hills consumed by the blaze. Fire officials confirmed several homes were destroyed but couldn’t give an exact number.
The blaze fueled by dry Santa Ana winds began shortly before 3:30 a.m. and burned about 400 acres in an area south of Malibu Lake on state park land, said Los Angeles County fire Capt. Mike Brown.
Roughly 100 homes in three separate communities were evacuated, Brown said.
The blaze was blowing downhill toward the Pacific Ocean. About 200 firefighters were on scene and aided by four water-dropping helicopters. No injuries have been reported.
Hundreds of firefighters were placed on wildfire watch this weekend as Santa Ana winds returned to Southern California. Gusts were reported up to 60 mph in some mountain passes overnight.
"It was pretty windy in this area," Brown said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
It was first of several major October firestorms that burned thousands of acres across Southern California, including in the San Bernardino Mountains where a pair of forest fires destroyed 451 homes and forced evacuations of thousands of residents from Crestline to Arrowbear.

Black Friday - The BIG SALE!!!
I asked my husband if we can get a new digital camera because I broke my Canon camera last Independence day and his old Nikon camera need an upgrade and he told me to wait for Black Friday because it is the best time to buy electronic stuffs because they will be on sale.
Black friday is the day after thanksgiving, where almost all stores imaginable have huge sales so people can do their traditional christmas shopping. It is called Black Friday because in the sales world, black marks mean profit and red marks mean loss. They make LOTS of profits on Black Friday. Black Friday is not an official holiday, but many employers give the day off, allowing consumers to get a head start on their Christmas shopping. Retailers often decorate for the Christmas season weeks beforehand. Many retailers open very early (typically 5 A.M.) and offer doorbuster deals and loss leaders to draw people to their stores. As supplies on deeply discounted goods are often limited by retailers, "doorbuster" sales are common on a Black Friday. The shoppers who arrive early to line up closest to the store's front doors are the only ones sure to be able to purchase the advertised bargains if the store runs out or those who are first 300 or 500 who arrived at the store. To help compensate for this, most stores try to have as many of each item as possible and/or mention the number available/ Some stores also give out incentive prizes to those in line such as gift cards good for free merchandise in the store to the first hundred or more shoppers.

How to make your Thanksgiving special?
Throughout dinner, everyone around the table can answer the questions! "We laugh, tell stories, reveal truths and yes, even shed a tear or two," Sandra says. "It's a fun, artful and a wonderful way to share ourselves with the people we are grateful for."
You can write as many "gratitudes" as you feel in your heart and place them in a little box or a velvet bag. Then, present it as a unique and heartfelt gift of appreciation and love
4. Thankfully, one person does not have to be responsible for the entire Thanksgiving meal, Sandra says. Divide the menu up among friends and family! The person hosting the event can bake, grill, or deep-fry the turkey or ham, and everyone else can bring the rest.
"You'll love how easy, delicious, and stress-free the holiday can be when it is a group effort," Sandra says. "The host can actually enjoy the guests, dinner, a cup of coffee and piece of pie -- and be thankful she didn't have to do it herself!"

Bushpig - The next extreme sport?
My husband have been checking the Cycle Trader for many months now because he wants to buy a 2007 KTM as gift for himself this Christmas then this morning, he told me that he knows what he wants already and he showed me this small bike which is called Bushpig in a magazine. We agreed that it will be nice to use at the ranch and he said, many years from now, it will be another sport like bike racing.
If man could have been made in more than one piece, he would have definitely had wheels rather than feet.

Staying fit during the holiday party
I like to eat a lot during Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year Holiday because every party we go to, there are lots of food to choose from. I see to it that I have a piece of all the menu on the table so that I know what is taste good and what is not. But after those party and eating a lot, I cant help not to gain weight because for all of us holiday season is a special time of year. But it is also a time of year when many people gain unwanted weight. However, you don't have to gain the standard holiday pounds. With a little foresight and planning you can avoid putting on extra weight during the holidays. Here are some tips to help you stay in shape during the holiday season.
1. When you attend a party, use a small plate they have so that you can only fill your plate as little as possible and in that way, you will not eat too much. Also before you go to the party, you can eat some snack bar at home so that when you are at your friend's party, you still have the feeling of fullness.
2. Dont drink too much alcohol. As much as possible avoid them. We know that alcohol contains lots of calories per servings. If you drink too much you may end up with a hangover and/or feel drained and fatigued. If you feel like drinking, get some water with lemon..good for your health.
3. When you go out for holiday meals, don't fill your plate up with high calorie foods first. Instead, start with low-fat, healthier choices such as salads and vegetable dishes. Then move on to other options such as fish, skinless chicken, grilled meats and whole-grains. Foods such as these are more filling and, in the end, if you decide to have a slice of cake or something like this, you're less likely to over-indulge.
4. When people go to the party, sometimes, they tend to eat more than talking or just hanging out with people that you they are spending with. Take your time, have fun and memorable time with them rather than with food.
5. Whether it's before, during or after the holidays, research shows that the main reason for weight gain is lack of activities. So if you are at home, you can do some exercise at home or have fun doing outside activities like hiking, biking, swimming, walking or walking out with your dogs and family.
6. Then get adequate sleep. Make sure that we give ourself a good night rest everyday.

Future jobs of the country...
Through the years there have been a number of efforts aimed at revitalizing low-income areas of the country. The newest initiative involves the introduction of green collar jobs to areas that are impoverished or need a financial push. The goal is that these jobs will provide a path for economic and social recovery in such areas.
Image: Shoe repair by shawn.I
Green-collar jobs are essentially blue-collar jobs that involve working with environmentally friendly services or products. It includes a construction team working on a environmentally friendly building, or manufacturing of such items as solar panels, or long-life lights bulbs. Even producers of walking shoes or bicycle repair shops can be seen as "green" jobs because they're promoting activities that don't negatively impack the environment.
According to reseach, the green movement is big business. Currently, "green" is the 5th largest sector of the market in the United States alone. Economists predict that "green" may be able to provide the economic revitalization that certain areas need.
Image: Installation by GreeneryGreen-collar jobs represent an option for workers in a time when many blue-collar jobs are evaporated or being handled overseas. What's more, generally green-collar jobs are local jobs. This means that in the communities and workers doing "green" good are not only benefitting from a stable job, they're seeing money stay in the community. Also, the trickle-down effect of green-collar work is that the environment in these communities can also be improved through sustainable practices and other "green" employment. It is widely believed that you can't outsource a green job, and a green job doesn't take a toll on public health. Green-collar jobs can also give workers the opportunity to learn new skills and become marketable outside of their local communities. Green jobs require a specialized skill set. This gives workers who have been pushed out of the economic pool and opportunity to acquire new skills and be extremely marketable for jobs in the new clean and green economy. The environment and "green" movement may be more than just a platform for politicians as we approach the 2008 elections. Green could be the answer for the millions of people who are looking to re-enter the workforce in a viable way.

Holiday Shopping Stress Free
Here's How:
- First you must know how far you can go with your budget. Much of the stress of the holiday season comes from feeling pressured to buy bigger and better gifts for those we love, even if this puts us in debt! While we may feel compelled to show how much we love people by showing how much we can spend, our loved ones would probably feel terrible if they knew we put ourselves in debt on their behalf. This year, determine what you can comfortably spend, take down your budget and stick with it. Gifts shouldn't have to be expensive, but the thoughts thats count.
- Sit down and make a lit of all the things that you wish to buy. List all the people you’d like to buy gifts for, and divide your budget among them in whatever way makes sense to you. Then, next to their names, list what you’d like to get each person. You can use this as a checklist, so you’ll know who you’ve bought gifts for and who still needs a gift, and you’ll be less likely to spend too much on impulse buys, or buy duplicate gifts, etc.
-As much as possible try to go to only to one store so that you dont have to transfer from one store to another . You can look down your list of items and see how many things you can find at the same store, and try to get all of your shopping done at one mall. If you can consolidate all of your shopping into one or two trips, that’s even better.
-It is better to shop in an earlier time. People sometimes love to shop until the very last minute. If you shop earlier, you’ll have a better selection of gift ideas to choose from, you won’t get stuck in the last-minute rush at the malls and the post office, and you’ll be able to enjoy being done with your holiday responsibilities so you can just enjoy the season. Earlier is also better when you’re talking about what time of day to shop; shopping in the morning, if at all possible, tends to be a good way to avoid crowds, find displays in better order, and enjoy a less stressed atmosphere.
-You can also do some shopping online. While there are some things many people aren’t comfortable buying online, there are many terrific holiday gifts to be found at your computer. Online shopping is a fast, simple, and efficient way to get the bulk of your shopping done at once. In addition to saving you the fights over parking spaces and the long waits in lines, in many cases you can have your gifts wrapped and delivered directly to your family and friends, saving yourself the trouble of wrapping and the visit to the post office!
Here are some tips that might be helpful while shopping:
*If you find a great gift at a great price, consider getting one for several people on your list, if it fits their tastes. This is a great way to save time and money.
*Ask for gift receipts at the register, and include them with your gifts when you wrap them. That way, you’ll have peace of mind knowing that if what you got doesn’t work for your recipient, they can easily exchange it.
*If you really need things to be simple, gift cards and certificates are a great option. You can find gift cards for everything from movies to dinners to massages now, and they’re quick to buy and easy to send. They still offer sweet sentiments to your loved ones, buy make the shopping much simpler for you.
*Rather than bringing all of your gifts to the post office and standing in the long lines, you can now get them to come to you! Visit the USPS website to find out how easy it is to get a postal carrier to come to your door, pick up your packages, and deliver them for you.

(Philippines) Batasan Congress blast killed 2 people, other injured
Manila, Philippines - A bomb explosion at an entrance of the House of Representatives in Quezon City on Tuesday evening killed three people, including Basilan Rep. Wahab Akbar, and injured at least seven others. The National Police and the Armed Forces immediately went on full alert.President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo ordered Director General Avelino Razon, National Police chief, to personally lead the investigation of the explosion. The President said Razon should "submit periodic reports as warranted."In a nationwide telecast late Tuesday evening, the President called for sobriety.Director Geary Barias, chief of the National Capital Region Police Office, said the driver of Gabriela party-list Rep. Luzviminda Ilagan was also killed in the explosion. The driver was identified as Marcial Talbo.Maan Bustalino, a staff member of Negros Oriental Rep. Pryde Henry Teves, who was also injured in the explosion, expired while being transfered from Malvar General Hospital on Commonwealth Avenue to the St. Luke's Medical Center on E. Rodriguez Sr. boulevard. She was rerouted to the Capitol Medical Center on Quezon Avenue instead where she was pronounced dead. Bustalino, who is from Dumaguete City, is in her mid-30's.
The explosion went off as the House ended its session at past 8 p.m."At this point in time I'm saying it's a bomb, but I can't say what type of bomb," said Razon.Police investigators suspect the bomb might have been placed on one of two parked motorcycles then remotely detonated as Akbar approached his car, fatally wounding him and ripping the motorcycles apart, Barias said."It looks like Congressman Akbar was the target," Barias said.Akbar, a former governor of Basilan province and reportedly a former member of the Abu Sayyaf group, had claimed he was a target of his former comrades. Some security officials have suspected that Akbar knew the leaders of the Abu Sayyaf, a Muslim radical group that has its roots on Basilan island. But they said he later had a falling out with Abu Sayyaf commanders and started fighting them.Akbar also had political opponents, including those that ran against one of his wives who succeeded him as governor of Basilan.
The bomb went off as drivers were picking up lawmakers and their staff and damaged a number of cars outside the south wing entrance to the Batasan Pambansa building."I felt the blast although I was on the other side of the building. The ceiling of the canopy near the south wing entrance came down," Rep. Teodoro Casino told The Associated Press.Rep. Joel Villanueva of the party-list Citizen's Battle Against Corruption said he was at the south wing of the building when he heard a "very loud explosion." Witnesses said they saw a van and one or two vehicles burning after the explosion. Razon said a destroyed motorcycle was found and experts were conducting chemical swabs on it to find out if it was used to carry the bomb.Police cordoned off the massive House complex in suburban Quezon City shortly after the explosion."If this is terrorist action or work of an anarchist I'm sure it was deliberately done to cow us," House Speaker Jose de Venecia told reporters at the site.Political tensions are high in the country. President Arroyo is facing a third impeachment complaint in as many years."We cannot rule out anything until the investigation is completed," De Venecia said. "There are many threats to us personally and officially. We will have to decide whether we have to augment security."He said he will speak with the President "to inform her tonight that we will not be cowed by terrorists."The Philippine capital has been jittery since last month, when an explosion damaged a shopping mall in the financial district of Makati, killing 11 people and injuring more than 100 others. A preliminary police report said it was an accident, although the owners of the mall disputed the finding.Militants have bombed targets in the capital in the past. -

It is ok to wear sexy during cold weather when you go to bed
If you’re like most of us, you sleep in something along the lines of a comfortable t-shirt and a pair of sweats. Give yourself a little pick-me-up with cute and sexy nighties, and wear them around the house just for kicks. Try a baby-doll or a strappy silk confection that clearly wasn’t meant to be slept in. Silk pajamas are fun for lounging, and even an old-fashioned embroidered cotton nightgown can put you in a different frame of mind. As you’re getting into bed, swap your play-clothes for — you guessed it — that comfy T-shirt and those soft, old sweats.

Constant habits that can risk your health
We like to think that we will always be healthy and in good shape in our younger years. Go out with friends, party, stay out late and lie out int he sun to wour on our tan. Women wear 3 inches heels to work or when go shopping, charge our meals on high interest credit card that we just newly renewed and go to bed late. Nobody can stop us because it is not of their business. But 20 years down the line, as our cakes start looking more like flares, something begins to set in. As life would have it, the things we do in our 20's affect how we look and feel 10-40 years later. Some expert insist that habits we form as young adults become the foundation for the rest of our lives, so why not set a good example for yourself when you're younger?
Wearing high heels everyday is one of the habits we should care about. Women love to wear heels. But our body will not be used to it. Squeezing your feet all the time into narrow high heel shoes and proceeding to teeter on a pinpoint heel the entire day is hard on everything except, maybe your self-esteem. Wearing heels everyday for hours can shorten and stiffen tendons and in extreme cases, irreversibly damage them. Stilettos are often responsible for back pain, shoulder pain and joint pain.
You are in a party and there are lots of drinks to choose from. You dont have to pay for your drinks so you dont care how much you can drink for that night. Dont abuse them because they will only get your belts expands and your heart at risk. Too much drinking have higher risks of injury and violence.
You look like an ashtray every time you are smoking but not only that it affect your skin and health. Wrinkles, stained teeth, lung cancer, that dirty ashtray around you and that bad smell that keep following you around even you just took a shower. And the real kicker is the longer you do it, the harder it is to quit. Besides the health risks, smoking also works like the sun on your skin, making your look 30 years older than you are.
Ops, dont forget also girls..that tanning is another habit that can give trouble later. dont forget that tanning equals wrinkles and dry skin. So before you go out always wear sunscreen and if not, your risks of aging are huge. You must apply sunscreen at least 20 minutes before you go out under the sun. Yeah, it is great to look good with our tan color..but remember we need to keep our skin from getting skin cancer.Posted by "VHI" at 3:04 PM 0 Messages Links to this post

Watch your kid's weight with this simple tips
We were looking at sunday newspaper last time and came accross with the topic about School opening with kids pictures. I didnt paid much attention with the pictures until my husband told me that most of the kids in the pictures were fats and obese. So he asked me to look for a kids who were not fat in the pictures and I cant tell who among the kids there were healthy. Most of the parents dont care how their kids look like or how their health will be in the future. Some parents think that having a far kids looks cute and healthy. They're wrong. Then I was watching last time the Maury's shows and their guests were kid around 3-12 years old and weight more than my weight. Imagine, a little kid who was 5 years old and weight more than a 200 pounds? Think of the health issues, hospital bills and clothes that need to personally made just for them.
Today kid's generation are more overweight than ever. Why?? because of these processed foods that is always ready around the corner. They also eat junk food, play video whole day inside their house and dont have exercise. For them doing exercise is only for an adults.
So before you start your day..think of the things that you can let your kids have an interaction with you for them to keep moving. Here are some stuff that you and your kids can watch weight and keep it off.
1. Is your kids school just around the block or just a walking distance away? Why not walk there with your kids - remember it is good for you too. Then after your kid's class meet them outside for sure, they will be happy to see you and also a great way to talk about what is coming up and what happened during the day.
Isnt it feel good that your kids are healthy all the time? Think of it...

Yard Sale Stuff you can buy for your home
If you're going yard sale that listed in the newspaper, prepare yourself for some disappointments. Because some sellers want to draw more shoppers to their yard. Some will have a sign of "Huge Yard Sale" but when you arrived there, there is nothing you can buy. And some Yard sale only consist old clothing and toys. A useful recycling function, certainly, but it doesn't help in your home decorating project. Identify what your tastes are. If you're concern of a good buy and elegant surroundings, try the more upscale neighborhoods in your community. Yes, these families have yard sales too, and they are more likely to be disposing of good condition, and good furniture because they bought a new one for their home improvement rather than because the stuff are worn out.
If you like international stuff and there is a military base within driving distance, hit the yard sales where the military families live. These folks have traveled the world and brought a lot of it back with them. Oriental furnishings and home decorator accents can be found at these yard sales. German steins, Middle Eastern brassware and camel, Italian large ceramics, Hawaiian tikis and shell hangings, African masks and drums; the yard sales of military families are like an international bazaar.
If your tastes are vintage and primitive, the place to go is farm country. Here you'll want to check the newspaper, because the yard sales will be spaced further apart. But this is the region to look for the 1950s print tableclothes, the heavy crockery mixing bowls, and the cookie jar just like Grandma's. Remember repurposing and go saling with an open mind and an open eye.

King Tut Egyptian Mummy goes public under glass

King Tut's buck-toothed face was unveiled Sunday for the first time in public. More than 3,000 years ago after the youngest and most famous pharaoh to rule ancient Egypt was shrouded in lined and buried in his golden underground tomb. Archeologists headed by Dr. Zahi Hawass carefully lifted the fragile mummy out of a quartz sarcophagus decorated with stone-carved protective goddesses, momentarily pulling aside a beige covering to reveal a leathery black body.

The linen was then replaced over Tut's narrow body so only his face and tiny feet were exposed and the 19 year old king, whose life and death has captivated people for nearly a century was moved to a simple glass climate-controlled case to keep it from turning to dust. The mystery surroundings King Tutankhamun who ruled during the 18th dynasty and ascended to the throne at the age 8 and his glittering gold tomb has entranced ancient Egypt fans since Carter first discovered the hidden tomb, revealing a trove of fabulous gold and precious stone treasures and propelling the once forgotten pharaoh of ancient time.

How to choose the perfect pair of jeans?
Ahhh...that denim dilemma. Sometimes it hard for me not to look at those people who were wearing jeans. Some likes to wear tight, loose, straight and low waist jeans. But some did not really looks good on them. Last time when I went to the mall to buy a pair of jeans I was immediately overwhelmed with all the choices. It is quite possible that most people could have more jeans that genes. Then I tried some styles and sizes but some didnt fit me and Im sure some of you experienced this also.
So here are some of the tips when you buy your next paif of jeans/
* First decide whether you are looking for skinny leg, straight leg, boot-cut or trouser cut (wide cut) jeans. Choose also between dark wash or a light wash. But for the younger ones this is the best one for them. Think about what details you want. Keep the sequins, rhinestones, crystals, fringe and grommets to a minimum. If you want a shapelier one..look for a jeans with yokes or stretchable ones. If you have a bit of a tummy, look for a jeans cut higher in the back than the front in a boot-cut fit. The proper length of your jeans should be just touching the shoe when you stand. This will depend a great deal on which shoes you plan on wearing the jeans with.
High-washed jeans are great for high lightingan hourglass figure. For this seasons, skinny leg are on the outs while trouser-cut jeans are coming into their own. When washing turn your jeans inside out and add a little vinegar to maintain color.

Daylight Saving Time

Dont forget to change you clock tomorrow for Daylight Saving Time. I remember that in the Philippines we practiced this DST when I was a teenager. I dont know what we didnt do it now. For sure it a bit confusing because our biological clock will adjust too.
Here in the US they changed their clock for DST. One of the biggest reason for changing the clock is that it saves energy. DST "makes" the sun "set" one hour later and therefore reduces the period between sunset and bedtime by one hour. This means less electricity would be used for lighting and appliances late in the day.
When I first arrived here in the US, it gets dark after 8pm. Now winter is coming, it gets dark around 6pm so that is why DST is really helpful if you want to save energy!

Southern California Fire!!!!

A friend of ours sent this photo of a fire in Southern California. It was taken from the Dana Point Area. We own a place there which is our vacation rentals for tourists from all over the world. I couldn't imagine myself being so near to that fire. It resembles hell! When we visited our place last October 26, all of the streets, houses, buildings and trees were full of ashes. One of our friends told us that it was like Armageddon. Oh my God!!! Is God punishing us already????
But life still moves on for those who were affected with this fire. This fire brings memories of our house that was burned on the day of Ash Wednesday in 2003. I was at work during that time and my sister sent me a text message that there was a fire in our place. Then right from our office building I could see the smoke. I almost got in an accident trying to cross the street so fast so that I could go home immediately and check on my parents, brothers and sisters. When I arrived at the place I saw all of our neighbors were on the street crying and just watching their house being burned. There was nothing else we could do but to just watch it. I could not find my family because there were lots of people on the streets. Some were just passers-by who just want to see what's going on, and some were lotters. Then I saw my family at the corner of the concrete house far from the burning area. That was the worst thing that I've ever seen! My father just had his mild stroke due to high blood preassure and we worried so much about him. My sister just able to save our refrigerator, TV, electric fan, and some clothes. Then most of my officemates came over to support me and donate clothes and money so that we can start all over again.
They said that it is better to be robbed by someone in your home because you still have something, rather than be affected by fire because you will lose everything!!!
How I wish those people who were affected will be more strong.
